Honor vs. Worship: God is Bringing Correction

There's an intense online debate right now about a minister.
The debate is so heated, it's caused brothers and sisters to argue amongst themselves.
When I saw it, I felt sad. My heart was heavy.
I asked Abba, "Is this a spirit of slander? Is it a spirit of division?"
And while there are elements of accusation, etc. happening, this isn't from outside, it's correction happening from within.
For the past months, God has been having me record and write about being careful not to worship man, even people we admire.
It happens slowly and subtly.
It can look like intense honor and loyalty.
It can even feel good to do because it comes with feelings of belonging, acceptance, and love. It comes from recognizing the power of God moving through a person.
It can also come from a desire to be feel interwoven & included. These are all normal things to want in the family of Christ.
But God is correcting where honor has devolved into worship.
He is correcting where dynamics that began well have become corroded. He is correcting systems and cultures that are off balance or unhealthy.
Just because the Holy Spirit moves, does not mean all is well. Jesus did said "away from Me" to a person who had accomplished much, but was out of intimacy, alignment, and obedience.
In Acts 10:25-26, Cornelius bows before Peter and Peter refuses to let it happen.
"As Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him and fell down at his feet and worshiped him. But Peter lifted him up, saying, “Stand up; I myself am also a man.”
Peter sees the vulnerable man who is recognizing the power of God and the man of God in him, but he draws a very important boundary.
There are cultures where bowing down is normal. I address this in today's recording.
Something God keeps impressing to me over and over is that "they know."
Leaders know where people have begun to worship them. You feel it. You see it in their eyes and gaze. You hear it in their trembling voices.
And are receiving it. Stop.
For those who are simply caught up, wanting to shield their mother or father in the faith from the correction God is bringing, take this to Him and ask Him to examine your heart.
Ask Him for wisdom, guidance, and comfort.
I have been in that place before. Where it feels like the sun and moon rise on this amazing person of God and it hurts to see them being spoken badly of.
The Lord had to correct me. I'd take it too far. Someone can belong to Him and be receiving a correction from Him.
There is nothing wrong with honor. But we are human. We can slip.
God is bringing correction. Try not to fight each other as He does.
Love your siblings in Jesus. Pray for each other. Pray for your own heart.
Let Him work. I recorded about this.
