Leaven

Dear friend,
I was surprised when I first started learning about how to make sourdough that it's made by cultivating wild yeast that's already in the air.
Unlike most breads, to make true sourdough, all you need is to mix flour and water and wait. The yeast will find your slurry and multiply as you feed it.
In Matthew 16:6, Yeshua says, "Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees."
Passover just ended. The feast of unleavened bread is a time when Jewish families (and some Christian ones) take the time to ponder where the leaven, that is forbidden during the week-long feast period, pride has slipped into our hearts.
As families take a break from bread, rolls, and regular pizza, opting for matzah instead, it's a time to remember what God has saved us from and take a posture of humility and gratitude.
It's funny because just like the yeast floating around the air, ready to help sourdough rise, religious pride can so easily start growing things in our hearts that God never intended to take root.
Religious pride steals peace, true joy, and connection with God. It's a counterfeit confidence that keeps you working hard to chase what's already yours in Christ.
In this episode, I talk about what God showed me about where this leaven comes from, how it affects people, and why getting rid of it will be the beginning of the intimate relationship with God you've always wanted.
