Time's Up

Dear friend,
The full title for this episode is "Time's Up."Honestly, the severity behind the title made me uncomfortable, but it is what it is.
Every day I realize more and more how much Jesus loves the church. He loves her too much to let her to be misused or mishandled. He loves His sheep with His whole heart.
Loving the church does not mean pretending when things look more worldly than biblical. It does not mean turning a blind eye to dysfunction because we are afraid or want to be accepted.
Love in a family means confronting issues and correcting them, not covering them up.
God has seen where people have been mishandled and He is bringing correction.
I realized the real consequences of church cultures that hide or even feed dysfunction this last Sunday. I love my spiritual family. Every week I'm grateful.
Last Sunday, as there is every Sunday, there was an altar call not just for salvation, but for those who need prayer. People are encouraged to go to the front of the church where they will be prayed over by people standing there ready to pray over them.
God showed me how important it is for the church family to be a healthy and loving family because vulnerability, the willingness and ability to stand before the entire church family and say "I need your help, is compromised when abusive systems run wild.
Jesus doesn't want performers or shut down children. He wants a healthy church family.
God's people have to be able to receive Him fully, without concern about judgement, gossip or an over-concern with image that is often found in places where intimacy is replaced with fear.
He also sees when legitimate teaching about being above offense or coming to church for "God, not people" are used to gaslight those who are reacting to chronic dysfunction.
This isn't a post about God cleaning His house. It's one about the correction He's going to bring. It's going to be severe because warnings have been ignored. His sheep are being hurt. People of God are copying wrong behaviors.
Remember, God giving time to people to change direction isn't Him co-singing. His patience cannot be confused for approval. The gifts of the Spirit are not a replacement for the fruit. "But Jesus, we did X in your name! Away from Me, I never knew You."
This episode is about His desire for His people to return to His heart and the Word for the model of how His house should function.
Spiritual gifts are not an excuse for the lack of fruits of the Spirit. He doesn't want to see worldly dysfunction: insecurity, personality cults, idolatry of man, competition, improper use of power, people pleasing, fear, slander, cutthroat personal ambition, etc. in His house.
"And they will know you are My disciples if you have love for one another." Jesus wants us to follow Him and for His house to look like Him.
In this time, He is bringing obvious correction. There is also a message for those who see chronic dysfunction around them and want to know what to do.
He's coming back. Stay faithful. Keep your hands and heart clean.
love, Bunmi
